Candidate Statement
It is imperative to initiate a positive transformation with in the Washington Grain Commission. I have served as the president of both the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and the National Association of Wheat Growers. I bring a wealth of leadership experience and a deep understanding of today’s challenges faced by grain growers. I understand the critical importance of engaging with farmers and judiciously directing your commission financial contributions with transparency and in ways that ultimately benefit you our districts grain growers.
Why do you want to serve on the board of the Washington Grain Commission?
My unwavering commitment to the industry is exemplified by my significant leadership roles and decade-long tenure on conservation districts at both the state and county level. I am ready to contribute in the updating of the WGC’s strategic and marketing plans, while ensuring that the stewardship of growers financial resources is conducted with the highest levels of responsibility and integrity.
What experience and strengths would you bring to the Washington Grain Commission?
My variety of leadership roles and history of participating in the grain industry are my greatest strengths. I have, also, sat on a variety of boards from Washington Association of Conservations Districts, to the Red Cross, and Community First Bank. Having a degree in communications, I took marketing classes which should help guide the mission of the grain commission.
What challenges being faced by the small grains industry would you focus your attention on?
Farming is tough with high input cost and these historically low prices. Our grain industry has to do better helping us farmers market our grain and stay in business. Retaining and gaining market share should be a priority!
What else would you like the growers and landlords of your district to know about you as a candidate?
I have grown up in the grain industry and truly love agriculture. I would be honored for your support to help modernize markets and our commission. This is YOUR grain industry and money!
