Market Development

Eastern Washington farmers grow some of the highest yielding wheat in the nation, but without markets, their efforts would come to naught.

With access to the Pacific Rim and markets around the world, upwards of 90 percent of Eastern Washington wheat is exported.

To ensure existing markets are serviced and new markets are explored, the WGC directs nearly 20 percent of its budget to market related activities.

That includes membership in U.S. Wheat Associates, the export arm of the U.S. wheat farmer. Market development also includes hosting trade teams, container shipments of specific wheat varieties intended to jump start sales, as well as helping to underwrite the Portland-based Wheat Marketing Center, which educates and trains foreign buyers on the use of U.S. wheat in their products.
