Assessments

The Washington Grain Commission (WGC) collects wheat and barley assessment in accordance with RCW 15.115.

Since established in 1958, the Commission has enjoyed consistent support from the grain elevator industry, which dutifully submits producer assessments. However, it’s important to note that the responsibility for assessment reporting and remittance doesn’t solely fall on the grain elevator industry.

Anyone involved in the initial purchase of Eastern Washington wheat and barley, such as craft brewers, distillers, flour mills, feedlots, dairy operations, as well as producers in peer-to-peer transactions and direct sales to consumers, also has an obligation to report and remit assessment income.
