Most barley grown in Washington is spring barley which is planted in early spring and harvested in late summer.

In 2017, Washington barley growers harvested 85,000 acres of barley which had an average yield of 53 bushels per acre (1.27 tons per acre). Total barley production for 2017 was 4.505 million bushels or 108,120 tons.

Washington State is ranked seventh in the nation’s top barley-producing states. In addition, barley consistently ranks in the top 25 Washington commodities based on production value.
