3.12.19 The 35 day government shutdown in late December and January meant that long range weather forecaster Art Douglas didn’t have access to the usual data he uses to make his forecast. As a result, episode 116 of Wheat All About It! is entitled “Art Douglas Forecasts From His Gut”.  Douglas, whose presentation at Spokane Farm Forum was sponsored by the Washington Grain Commission, spoke on February 5, 2019. From a La Nina in 2018, the planet is now in the grips of a very weak El Nino and while Douglas was generally optimistic about the weather coming our way for the remainder of the cropping season, he pointed out that upper level circulation in the atmosphere and sea surface temperatures are out of whack, which adds a layer of perplexity to the forecast.
